One of the greatest injustices in history is that some of the greatest movies of all time were box office failures (like Duck Soup and It's a Wonderful Life), and Gwangi suffered the same fate. This film has some of Harryhausen's greatest animation and is a very interesting combination of genres (Cowboys and Dinosaurs), not to mention a greatly entertaining film.

'Valley of Gwangi' is remarkable mainly as an exhibition of the power of Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion animation. In the days before CGI, Harryhausen was the master at bringing to life images which were impossible to film. I first saw this film in the theater (yes in 1969) as a present for my fifteenth birthday and I still remember the wonder of the bloody fight between Gwangi and the elephant. It is hard for us today to realize how valuable this was to us kids with imagination in the Sixties. This is great stuff!
