Harryhausen does it again, probably the best of his sci-fi movies. The Ymir is the first alien in movie history that doesn't look like a human and still manages to look and move realistically. Plus, unlike most aliens it is not completly evil (Alien, War of the Worlds) or a christ-like entity (ET, Starman, Day the Earth Stood Still), it's simply an innocent creature taken out of its enviornment that's trying to survive. Pure Movie Magic.
