Stargate SG-1

(Stargate SG-1)

 The Story

After the human adventure of Stargate - the movie, in which a door allowing to travel on onother planet is discovered, engineers, who continued secretly to work on the Stargate noticed that by entering other coordinates, they could open a path to hundred of others planets. They decide therefore to create an exploration team named SG-1, so as to discover others worlds and others peoples.

The task is once more given to O'Neil (whose character is now played by Richard Dean Anderson 'McGyver'), who is given the help of a woman, Captain Samantha Carter. He leaves with a new team (two members were from the original team) to Abidos (the planet of the movie) where they find back Daniel and persuade him to return back on Earth. They return with Sha're and Skaara, the young boy O'Neil had attached with during his first visit.

Ra being dead, they do not expect that another god of the ancient Egypt, Apophys, comes to "visit courtesy" them on Earth. This one leaves Earth with Sha're, Skaara and a woman from the army. The general Hammond, the new commander of the secret base, takes suitable measures and constructs an iris around the door, that, if no recognition code is given, closes and prevents therefore the arrival of undesirable visitors.

Once done, O'Neil and his team leave to Chu'lak, Apophys's world, to attempt to free the hostages. But they are taken prisoners, and assist to the ceremony that makes out of Sha're the host of a future "god".

In fact, these so-named gods are the Goa'uld, an alien larval race that need a host (here a human body) to live and grow. Once they reach their maturity, the Goa'uld take possession of the body they host. They totally immunizes them from all sickness and god larvas are also endowed with special powers.

Working for the Goa'ulds are the Jaffas, that are the captains of their soldiers. Jaffas are whole entirely devoted to their masters. Nevertheless, after having been condemned to death, O'Neil, Carter and Jackson succeed to convince one of them, Teal'C, to help them. The Jaffa returns against his and helps them to escape. He comes back to Earth with the team where he is finally accepted as a friend and joins it.

Teal'C has succeeded in taking over the control of the Goa'uld he holds, but he cannot get rid of it, for example in order that the scientists study it. In fact, deprived from his parasite, his body would no longer have immunity defenses and he would die in few hours. His aknowledge of the Goa'uld and the worlds he already visitied make him a precious ally to SG-1.

Stargate SG-1 was aired for the first time on the 27th July 1997. The first two hours episode "Children of the Gods" was the premice to the series and had great audience. After the first season, Stargate-SG1 began to find its marks and developed one of the most scheming mythologies ever realized in science-fiction for television.

After the first season, the series won over the most skeptical criticizes and ended on some of most acclaimed episodes of the season. It is not surprising that at the end of the first season MGM decided to spread the show from 66 episodes (initially anticipated for two years) to 110 episodes (anticipated on four years) all to be aired on 5 seasons. Today this series is composed of 6 seasons and 132 episodes.
