 The Story

"That was the scene in California's Mojave Desert five years ago - our historic first view of the Newcomers' ship. Theirs was a slave ship, carrying a quarter million beings bred to adapt and labour in any environment. But they'd washed ashore on Earth, with no way to get back to where they came from. And in the last five years, the Newcomers have become the latest addition to the population of Los Angeles... "

Alien Nation is a series that takes place at Los Angeles in 1993. Five years earlier, a spaceship, the Gruza, transporting a quarter of million of alien slaves crashed in the desert of Mojave. Very soon after, the Tenctonese assimilate the residents of Los Angeles and attempt to integrate into human society.

One of them, George Francisco, is even the first alien to become a police detective in Los Angeles. He works with the detective Matt Sikes. Due to the fact of George's race, he and Matt have for missions to inquire on murders in which are implied « Newcomers », given name to Tenctonese by humans. Their first inquires focuses on a suspect death in the inner city where live most of George's similar...

The series is moving around George's family and the efforts it accomplishes to adapt to the new environment. All do not like the arrival of these aliens that it is necessary to annihilate. In a racial cohabitation spirit where mixes racism, discrimination and tolerance, ALIEN NATION is dramatic, comic, resolute and movingly. The alien nature of the « Newcomers » masks the main theme of the series: the racism. It is based on the creative spirit of Kenneth Johnson who previously created the famous series V. For some, ALIEN NATION was an attempt of Kenneth Johnson to continue the saga of V.
