The Lost World

(The Lost World)

February 11, 2004

By far the best version of the Lost World ever, even though it's the first. Willis O'brien's special effects can be compared with his later ones from King Kong. And this is the only version of the story that concentrates more on the dinosaurs than a human tribe on the plateau, a very wise move indeed! Sure, the effects are dated now, and their knowledge of paleontology is quite flawed (We now know that the Trachodon never existed, and neither did that ceratopsian that fought an allosaurus and a T. rex). Still, the finale is one of the most important moments in movie history ever, the first prehistoric monster on a rampage in a modern day city!
