From the Earth to the Moon

Not great, but fairly entertaining. The science in this SF film is an uneasy mix of 19th century technologic thinking (a giant gun to propel a capsule into space) and very futuristic depictions of power sources and equipment. The essence of the Jules Verne story is there -- a wager between two long-time enemies and rivals as to the feasibility of the trip. There is also a lot of nonsense added for no particular reason. So it gets a mixed review: neither a masterpiece nor a disaster.
