I liked this movie as a kid. Then I read the book thinking it would be like the movie, now the book is one of my favorites and the movie is something I may occasionally watch. I would recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't read the book otherwise it seems like a slap in the face to Heinlein.

Fans of the book will be very disappointed, the advanced battle suits of the Mobil Infantry are reduced padding and the ideas about government are replaced by a Neo-Nazi state. Juan Rico is not shown as growing into a complete adult. If you haven't read the book, you get a basic B movie. The Bugs are pretty neat though. I don't recommend this movie for anyone.

A very good science fiction movie.Maybe a bit gore in some scenes but a good scenario drawn from the eponymous novel which inspired the film.Presence of weapons,spacecrafts and other elements that make this film a good element of the Space Opera:planets,aliens(here the insects against which humans are at war)great technology developped by the humans...A very good movie for all science fiction fans and especially those who like the Space Opera.The soundtrack is also great(Zoe Poledouris-I have not been to Paradise)and actors Casper Van Dien aka Johnny Rico and Denise Richards aka Carmen Ibanez are great
